At the Biological Science Imaging Resource (BSIR), we provide access to cutting-edge transmission electron microscopy (TEM), confocal microscopy, and fluorescence imaging—without the need for researchers to invest in costly instrumentation or specialized facilities.
Our center offers affordable, remote-access TEM imaging using FEI’s Titan Krios™ and the Hitachi HT7800, all operated by expert staff with decades of microscopy experience. An FEI Glacios Cryo-TEM and Aquilos cryo FIB will soon further expand our capabilities. Through the Appion automated data-collection platform, users can monitor their TEM sessions in real time via a web browser and collaborate seamlessly with BSIR staff throughout the process.
Beyond TEM, BSIR supports advanced fluorescence and confocal imaging, including spinning disk and light sheet microscopy, with systems from Olympus, Leica, Nikon, and Miltenyi Biotec.
To assist researchers at every stage, we provide comprehensive sample-preparation resources, including protocols and hands-on technical support to ensure the highest-quality results. We also offer data-analysis assistance, giving users the tools and guidance needed to process, analyze, and interpret their imaging datasets.
BSIR operates as a collaborative research hub where shared expertise enhances instrument access and scientific productivity. We offer extensive training and technical support to help researchers make the most of our imaging platforms. Usage fees support the operational sustainability of Florida State University, while major equipment acquisitions are funded through individual and multi-user grants.
